If you had to rate your organization’s teachability on a Scale from 1 - 10, how would you rate it?

How teachable are you?

Is being teachable or coachable important to you (as a leader)?

Your organization, family, team will value or reflect the values YOU value.

Would your team, staff, company, peers, say you’re teachable? Why?

I was a part of an organization that was very narcissistic b/c a number of the senior leaders were narcissistic.

How teachable is a narcissist?

Narcissists & narcissistic organizations will say exactly what they think you want to hear. They’ll say seemingly the right things…but their actions will prove otherwise.

Actions & actual change & transformation is the real “metric” / “KPIs” of whether or not you’re teachable or your organization is teachable.

I was with an acquaintance a number of years ago sitting down at a restaurant & I asked him if he was teachable.

Him: “Of course.”

Me: “Why do you say that?”

Him: Couldn’t answer.

What have you changed in your life the past 90 days?

-a thought?

-an action?

-a habit stopped?

-a habit started?

I asked the #2 guy in a multi-billion dollar division of a company, in charge of 3,000 employees, “What’s your personal growth plan? What books are you reading? What podcasts are you listening to?”

“I don’t have time for that. When I get home, I’m too tired for any of that stuff.”

Was he teachable?

It takes emotional intelligence to be teachable / coachable.

SELF-PERCEPTION

Self-Regard is respecting oneself while understanding and accepting one’s strengths and weaknesses. Self-Regard is often associated with feelings of inner strength and self-confidence.

Self-Actualization is the willingness to persistently try to improve oneself and engage in the pursuit of personally relevant and meaningful objectives that lead to a rich and enjoyable life.

Emotional Self-Awareness includes recognizing and understanding one’s own emotions. This includes the ability to differentiate between subtleties in one’s own emotions while understanding the cause of these emotions and the impact they have on one’s own thoughts and actions and those of others.

Fixed mindset vs a Growth Mindset

-Which one serves you better?

List the benefits of a Fixed Mindset vs the Benefits of a Growth Mindset.

What are the barriers to a growth mindset?

hubris / pride

ego

insecurity

some of the stories you’ve created about what’s important or valued

Back to the main question:

How teachable is your organization?

How teachable are you?

We’re on the receiving end of each other’s EQ (or lack thereof) every day in every relationship.

Unaddressed emotional issues don’t get better over time, they actually compound.
